Today we looked at prepared slides of protozoans (amoeba, paramecium, euglena, volvox) and algae (spirogyra, diatoms), completing experiment 3.2 and 3.3. The focus was on detailed drawing and identifying and labeling the different organelles. They are all getting more handy with the microscopes, and I had them move through their lab notebooks in a more self-guided manner – good practice! They all did a good job finding specimens, keeping track of what they were looking at, and learning from their mistakes. It was cool seeing some of the things we’ve been learning about under the scope. We ended lab time with Module 3 Jeopardy! We had so much fun, and it was a close game. It gave them a chance to practice pronouncing some of the vocabulary words, which I hope was helpful and not too stressful! They all said they would play it again, so we’ll try and do it again soon!
