We had a great first lab today! I gave a brief introduction to the course and what’s involved. We went over some lab technique, microscope handling and care, and an introduction to today’s lab. Then we got to try out the microscopes! The girls were up for the challenge and did a great job handling the scopes carefully and asking questions when they needed help. They also learned to record data in their lab notebooks, and the importance of keeping careful and honest records. With all the introductory necessities and the learning curve of using the microscopes, we only made it about halfway through Exp. 1.2 today, but we made the most of the time we had!
